抄録

Flow in liquid film for curtain coating is studied by numerical calculation and visualizations. Because of the disturbances generated at the slot exit, the edge guides and the downstream liquid surface, the varicose patterns of the film profile appear. The non-uniformity of the film thickness is visualized by mixing dyes called blue water. The intensity of the digital images is analyzed to evaluate the film thickness using Lambert-Beer law. The large sinuous deformation of the film, called a pull, is observed when the Weber number is small, and the visualization of the flow at the downstream liquid surface indicates that the pull is caused by the flow forced by the capillary pressure at the liquid surface.
