We have investigated responses of concentrated suspension of non-Brownian spheres dispersed in Newtonian/viscoelastic carrier liquids under large amplitude oscillatory shear flows. The viscoelastic suspensions have showed similar transient responses after each reversal in the shearing direction to those observed with Newtonian carrierliquids. But, fluidity in the transient periods was lower than that of the Newtonian cases. It was considered tha trearrangements in the particulate microstructure could account for these transient responses. In the first stage of the rearrangements, the effect of elastic recoil increased the fluidity, but the viscoelasticity of the carrier liquids resisted the microstructural rearrangement in the latter half stage. Consequently, larger strains were necessary to finish the transient response in the cases of the viscoelastic suspensions. But these tendencies became not so clear when the volume fraction of the particles was high.
