本小論ではパウロが性的不品行を忌避する理由について二つの論点から考察する。一つは性的不品行が強い汚染力を持っているということ。この理解は旧約聖書(特に祭司文書や神聖法集)や第二神殿時代のユダヤ教文献に見られるもので、「汚れ」は単なる比喩ではなくリアルなものとして捉えられていた。本小論では旧約聖書に考察を限定して、祭儀的不浄に比べて道徳的不浄は該当者、神殿さらにはイスラエルの土地に深刻な事態を被らせることを考察する。二つ目の論点は黙示的終末論において性的不品行が敵の表象として機能しているということ。パウロが運用している黙示的終末論における社会的・宇宙的二元論は、彼が性的不品行を黙示・終末論的敵の表象として捉えていた証左であることを考察する。それゆえ、性的不品行が信仰共同体内に生じることは「神の国」を受け継ぐ聖なる共同体にとって重篤な事態を意味する。

This article investigates, from two viewpoints, the reason why Paul abhorred sexual immorality. First, I deal with the idea of the defiling force of sexual immorality. I argue that the idea can be found in the Old Testament (particularly the Priestly and Holiness sources) and in the second-temple literature and, furthermore, that compared with ritual impurity, moral impurity incurs serious damages on the person, the sanctuary, and the land. Second, I deal with sexual immorality as an apocalyptic enemy. I argue that the social and cosmological dualism found in Paul's arguments shows that he ranked sexual immorality among the apocalyptic enemies. Therefore, when believers commit sexual immorality in their faith-community, it means that they put in peril the holy community that shall inherit the Kingdom of God.
