With the developments in ICT society, means to get information has changed remarkably. In the scene of education, students study on VDT and use near visual acuity more than before. In order to teach students efficiently, we should inspect not only far visual acuity but also near visual acuity of students. We tested children's refaction, far and near visual acuity and questionnaire investigation at an elementary school, a municipal school in Urayasu city on May 2010. The purpose of those tests is to clarify the actual situation of the students who have poor near visual acuity. According to the far and near visual acuity test at the school, we found that there are children whose far visual acuity is "more than 1.0" and have near visual acuity "under 0.8" The percentage of them was 6.3% (22) for the right eye, and 5.6% (20) for left eye. And according to the refraction test at the school, we found that there are many children who have refractive myopia and refractive hyperopia. Their proportion was similar. In case of the children whose far visual acuity is "under 1.0", we found that there are many children who have low or moderate or high degree of myopia. A total percentage of them were 67.0% (132) for the right eye, and 64.4% (125) for left eye. The results show that the near visual acuity test is effective to preserve the sight of children who aren't found to have poor eyesight because who has good far-vision eyesight is good although they have hyperopia. We can conclude that far visual acuity inspection these days cannot manage near visual acuity. It is time to operate near visual acuity inspection.
