Ginsenoside Production, Tissue Culture and Induction of Regeneration of Interspecific Hybrid Ginseng : Panax ginseng × P. quinquefolium

Abstract

With the aim of obtaining varieties of ginseng for medical use, we compared the growths and contents of ginsenoside contents of ginseng and a first generation hybrid ginseng (Pgq) between ginseng and American ginseng. The growth of Pgq was better due to the hybrid vigor phenomenon, and the ginsenoside content of Pgq higher. Since, Pgq was sterile and its field cultivation was not possible, it was grown by tissue culture. Regeneration inducement from callus was tested. It was demonstrated by RAPD analysis that Pgq used in this experimentation had the characteristics of Panax interspecific hybrid.
