開発に生きる女性のライフヒストリー : バングラデシュ村落社会にて  [in Japanese] A Bangladeshi Woman's Life History : Engage in Development in Rural Society  [in Japanese]

本稿の目的は、バングラデシュ村落社会で暮らす女性のライフヒストリーを通して、当該社会で展開される「開発」の意味を当事者の側から検討することである。「参加型開発」が隆盛を極める中で、開発プロジェクトが繰り広げられる社会の内部者は、単なる受益者ではなく、主体となってそこにたずさわることが求められる。本稿で紹介するバングラデシュ農村に暮らす女性においても、開発プロジェクトは彼女の生活の中に入ってきており、ことに、彼女は「家族計画」や「ノンフォーマル教育」などの導入にたずさわり、開発による社会変容のきっかけをもたらした存在と言える。彼女のライフヒストリーには、自らの社会的位置や地域社会での関係性を築き、また彼女自身の生活の中での価値観が変容する過程において、開発の受容と葛藤が錯綜する様子が伺える。開発の主体であると同時に受益者であり、また地域社会の一員である一個人にとって、開発に対する地域社会の反応は、自らの生活に関わるがゆえに、敏感に対応せざるを得ない。そこに、社会において重要とされる価値観や「よいもの」が描き出され、一個人の地域社会における位置づけが、社会での開発の意味を物語る。その意味において、ライフヒストリー法による本稿の報告は、当事者にとっての開発の意味や位置づけを考えるきっかけになるものと考える。

This paper aims at examining the meaning of development from local people in Bangladesh rural society. It focuses on a Bangladeshi woman's life history, who has been concerned with social development project. While "Participatory Rural Appraisal" has been popular among development approaches, local people are not considered as mere beneficiary, but the internal persons themselves ought to become actors for development project. As for the focused woman in this paper who lives in Bangladesh rural village, some development projects have influenced her life. She has been involved in the innovation process of development; working for "Family Planning" and "Non-Formal Primary Education." It could be said that she brought signal of social transfiguration to her local community. In this process, she negotiates herself to build her social position and relationship in her community. Because she is one of the social members there, she cannot but be sensitive to local response. Her negotiating process, therefore, typically represents the social value, what is considered important in their life, and tells the meaning of development for them. That is, her life history shows local response to development.
