Purpose: The purpose of this article is to be contributory to the establishment of standards for the evaluation of school lunch services through a summarization and evaluation of the past studies on evaluations of lunch services, and examination of effective evaluation methods for these lunches. Examination Method: We used CiNii for retrieval of articles by using the query “school lunch services” and “evaluation”. As a result, a selection of 16 articles appropriate for our examination was originally chosen. First, outlines of these articles were organized. Then, the articles were evaluated based on the following five standards: i) The actual status of the social economy is reflected in the article; ii) The purpose of the evaluation is clearly described; iii) There is sound logic in the previous studies, which leads to the evaluation results in the article; iv) The changes in the subjects are described; and v) Objectivity and generality are described by comparison with preceding studies. Result: There were only two articles that met all of the five evaluation standards out of the 16. The evaluation item iv) had the fewest articles applied. Conclusion: It is necessary to establish standards of an evaluation so that school provided lunch menus would be improved by returning the evaluation to subjects.
