Abstract
In this study, a new method for establishing structural foundations in soft ground was developed. The approach enables reduced foundation size, improved seismic capacity and enhanced horizontal resistance/bearing capacity, and also involves soil solidification to improve the ground around the foundation pile heads. By utilizing this method according to on-site conditions, this structure (called a composite ground pile foundation) lowers construction costs by approximately 30% compared to conventional designs. In light of these benefits, the Technical Review Panel collated the results of related model experiments and numerical analysis to create design and construction guidelines, and established the method as a new practical technique.
