The purpose of this study was to produce an experimental calcium silicate cement produced from alginate impression material and to synthesize calcium hydroxide. A dental alginate impression gel and used chalks were selected and milled with suitable ratio. This powder was heated in the furnace up to 850℃. TG-DTA analysis, Compressive test, hardening time and XRD analysis were performed comparing with calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate was completely decomposed at 800℃. Experimental calcium silicate showed a suitable hardening and a sufficient strength. After heating, they were transformed to calcium oxide. Furthermore, calcium hydroxide was newly formed by mixing with water. These data suggest that calcium silicate produced from dental waste may be as promising as commercial MTA in dental root canal treatment.
