Eikenella corrodens is a fastidious small Gram-negative bacilli belonging to the HACEKgroup (Haemophilus spp., Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans, Cardiobacteriumhominus, Eikenella corrodens and Kingella spp.). E. corrodens is considered to be weakvirulence, and the infection is usually polymicrobial and associated with Streptococcus spp.. We experienced four E. corroden infection cases causing perirectal abscess, septic arthritisright ankle, right lower thigh open abscesses, and right third and fourth fingers crushinjury. The present four cases were polymicrobial infections associated with Staphylococcusspp. or Streptococcus spp.. These gram-positive cocci were the most frequently detectedin coexistent with E. corrodens. Isolated E. corrodens was susceptible to benzylpenicillin, ampicillin, third-generation cephems, tetracycline, minocyclin, clindamycin and new quinolones;and moderately susceptible to gentamicin; but resistant to cepharexin, erythromycin andlincomycin. In vitro cultivation of E. corrodens isolates often induced colony morphologychanges, but such changes gave no infl uences on biochemical properties, sensitivity againstantibiotics or production of enzymes. Eikenella corrodens found to produce esterase, lipase(C8), lipase( C14), valine arylamidase, trypsin, phosphoamidase and α-galactosidase.
