抄録

In 2010, detailed instructions were provided for "Exercises in elementary mathematics I", a compulsory subjectfor first-year students in the Department of Electronic Control Engineering, using information and communicationtechnology (ICT). The effects of the introduction of the instructions were examined on the basis of the changes inthe number of students passing the exam and the results of a questionnaire. The number of students who passed in2010 and 2011 increased substantially compared with the numbers in 2006 and 2007, when we investigated beforethe instructions were available. Moreover, according to the results of the questionnaire administered as part of thestudy, a majority of the students felt that they had developed their calculating and thinking ability, and that mostof the detailed instructions were beneficial.
