FurfuraLs, which are obtained from C5-C6 carbohydrates present in ligno-cellulosic materials, can be valorized into the second generation biofuels by the aqueous-phase catalytic process where aldol condensation with acetone is combined with hydrogenation of the aldol condensates. In the present research work, anionic ion-exchange resin was used as a solid base catalyst for a reaction to form furfural and acetone into their aldol condensates that are intermediate matters of the second generation biofuels. The experimental data indicated that anionic ion-exchange resin catalyzed the aldol-condensation even in the aqueous phase. When the heterogeneously base-catalyzed reaction was carried out at 313 K, fiirfhral was converted into the aldol-condensates at the reaction rate constant of 1.48h-1.
