Abstract
Creating photorealistic CG, which requires a high cost with long time, is an important problem. We assume that the workload for producing high quality CG will be reduced by considering human perception. For this, we attempt to use realistic CG considering human perceptions, instead of photorealistic CG. This report presents exploring elements of realistic woven cloth surface for revealing elements contribute the perceptions. First, we interviewed photographers and desktop publishers to know candidate elements. Next, a psychophysical experiment reveals texture the most contributing element from these candidate elements. In addition, we explore elements for realistic woven texture by a psychophysical experiment of textures. We define a radial basis function shape and an elongated blob as the elements because of knowledge of texton. We reveal periodically positioning represents woven textile textures from the psychophysical experiment. Finally, we demonstrate generated textures consisting of these elements periodically, and several generated textures are perceived realistic surfaces.
