Abstract
Flash storage is one of the most important storage devices in current computer system, especially in smartphones and tablet PCs. However, I/O scheduling on these devices have not been discussed enough. It is because their random access performance is quite high and scheduling is not considered to be useful. In this paper, we present random access performance evaluation and demonstrate I/O scheduling have effect on I/O performance in some cases. After that, we discuss their performance, especially relation between seek distance and response time, and proposes a method for improving I/O performance by choosing the suitable I/O scheduler.
