Abstract

In order to estimate easy and speedy measuring radioisotope cesium concentration in forest ecosystem, we examined the measuring condition using an environmental radiation monitor and its special holder, and evaluating the feasibility. The resultant ambient dose rates of forest floor and forest soil (0-5cm depth) were not affected by the differences in water content with the same as dry weight, and were proportional to dry weight. This suggested that ambient dose rates of forest floor and forest soil could be compared to regardless of fresh and air dry weight with the same as dry weight (e.g., 1kg) by inserting sample in environmental radiation monitor' s special holder. The radioisotope cesium concentration in forest floor not less than about 1,000 Bq/kg was able to estimate ambient dose rates of forest floor per 1kg in fresh and air dry weight as measured by indoor and outdoor. On the other hand, the radioisotope cesium concentration in forest soil was considered desirable to measure ambient dose rates of forest soil per 1kg in air dry weight as measured by indoor not more than 0.1 μSv/h in ambient dose rate.
