In this study, to assess the effect of estrogen deficiency on the osseoconduction around surface charged titanium implant, we evaluated the osteogenic capability using estrogen-deficient animal model. Ten-weeks-old Japanese white rabbit underwent either bilateral ovariectomy (OVX). After 3 months, polarized and non-polarized implants were inserted in the medial epicondyle of left and right femur region. After 6 weeks, the pull-out force was measured using universal testing machine. The pull-out force of polarized implant was 95.0±4.0 N and that of non-polarized implant was 80.5±12.7 N, indicating that the controlled surface charges may affect the pull-out force between bone and titanium implant.
