It is important to improve the stability of furniture during strong earthquake for the sake of life hazard mitigation. This paper proposes an integrated method which estimates the stability of furniture in a building, including the complete survey of furniture, the prediction of furniture responses for design earthquake motions, and the selection of anti-sliding/overturning measures. We propose to use a risk assessment diagram against sliding and overturning in the evaluation of the stability of furniture and the effectiveness of anti-sliding/overturning measures. In this paper, we demonstrate an application of our proposed method to furniture in a building with accommodation.
