Abstract

While most of TV programs are broadcasted with captions for auditory-impaired people, not all programs can be captioned due to financial reason. However, it becomes so common to watch recorded TV programs, and the time-shifting gives us a chance to view recorded programs with voluntary captions. This paper reports about a third-party caption server and a compliant HDD recorder. The authors actually implemented such a system and verified its feasibility.
