Abstract

Mini Ken or Mini Research, which is a kind of seminar of research practice, was introduced and has beencarried out in Fukushima National College of Technology. The purpose of Mini Ken is to give second gradestudents academic study experience such as research, examination, organization, report and presentation, in the earlystage of their learning. The project of Mini Ken started in 2006 after one year planning by a working group.Almost all faculty members lead mini ken. Five students are allocated to each Mini Ken by their first to fifthpreference, according to their school record of first year. Students have an opportunity of research with students andteachers in other departments. Depending on their individual theme, some activities of Mini Ken are carried out notonly in school hour but also in weekends or summer vacation. Mini Ken gives students one credit afterpresentation in the style of poster session in September. This paper reports the history of Mini Ken project andshows its effectiveness of education.
