Mechanism of the combustion instability in a lean premixed low-swirl combustor with mixture inhomogeneity is investigated by detailed laser measurements. Global flow structures of the unsteady inhomogeneous mixture flame are firstly clarified by the PIV data. The dynamic features of the flow field are compared with the data of the unsteady homogeneous mixture flame in the literature. It is also found from the PIV data that the flame anchoring position locates near the merging point of the impinging and inner shear layer flows. The anchoring position slightly shifts downstream for the lower downstream fuel percentage condition possibly due to the leaner local equivalence ratio in the region. The c^^-_<Mie> contour shows a cyclic motion of a bulge structure. The bulge of fresh gas, which is considered a traveling vortex ring of fresh gas mixture, is periodically moving along the outer shear layer and merging with the stationary vortex flame near the wall.
