Abstract

A total of 466 individuals belonging to 27 species of insect were collected from Great Cormorant nests on Chikubu Island in Lake Biwa, Shiga Prefecture, Japan. Coleoptera were the most abundant, representing 35.1% of all insects found. Of these, 148 specimens (90.8% of all beetles) belonged to the four dominant families Curculionidae, Trogidae, Hydrophylidae, and Dermestidae. Insect fauna of Great Cormorant nests were mainly consisted of scavengers.
