Biomass steam-hydrogenation hybrid gasification process for liquid fuel production consists of four reactors such as a rapid pyrolyzer of biomass, a steam gasifier of produced tar, a hydrogenation gasifier of produced tar for hydrogen production and a combustor for char. The hydrogenation gasifier requires an efficient tar evaporator to inhibit coke production during the vaporization. To elucidate an appropriate evaporation process for biomass tar, two types of evaporation method, i.e. tube type and splay type were evaluated. A tube type evaporator produced large amount of coke to reduce tar vapor. On the other hand, a splay type evaporator could evaporate tar up to 68%. A splay type evaporator was suitable for the hydrogenation gasifler.
