With an aim to pass on the cultural tradition of the Kimono, we developed an educational program for home economics in which students actually experienced trying on the Yukata. The experience-oriented program was conducted on 155 girl students at a private high school. After trying on the Yukata in pairs, the student was asked to evaluate on their own wearing skills, and the teachers on the students'. The subsequent survey was conducted after summer vacation. The fact that there are some differences between the evaluation of the teachers and the students left issues for future teaching. After the class, most students answered that they understood how to wear the Yukata, enjoyed trying on the Yukata and hoped to dress it again. 30% of the students were reported to have worn the Yukata during their summer vacation. By using exploratory analysis, model-building among self-evaluation of the wearing skills, degree of understanding, and interest towards the Kimono, and the relations among the factors were verified with structural equation modeling (SEM), an effective model was shown. It can be concluded that this experience -oriented program of try-on-Yukata attracts the students' interest and provides them an opportunity to practice in life.
