Sol-gel derived nanoparticles bioactive glass (NBG) was added to the resin modified glass ionomer cement (GIC) and the fabricated samples immersed in the PBS for 28 d to monitor the changes in the mechanical properties and biocompatibility. Cell study showed that GIC with high concentrations of NBG has higher cell viability. However the mechanical property of samples showed less flexural strength for GIC containing more than 10% (w/w) NBG immersed in PBS. In the present study characterization of the bioactive glass added glass ionomer samples successfully clarified the cause of the critical condition for mechanical properties.
