Abstract
In our previous studies, glass-fiber reinforced plastics (GFRPs) composed of E-glass and polycarbonate for esthetic orthodontic wires were prepared by using pultrusion. These wires were more transparent than conventional metallic wires, and their flexural properties were nearly equivalent to those of available Ni-Ti wires. Generally, the mechanical properties of GFRPs depend greatly on the parameters of glass-fiber (e.g., fiber type and diameter) as reinforcement. In this study, we prepared the GFRP wires made from glass fiber having high strength in comparison with E-glass. The effects of type of glass-fiber on the flexural and frictional properties of GFRPs were also investigated.
