We have previously shown that partially hydrolyzed octacalcium phosphate (OCP) has a better osteoconductivity more than that of the original OCP. This study was designed to investigate the effect of the presence of gelatin molecules on the hydrolysis reaction of OCP and the biological characteristics of OCP-co-precipitated gelatin composite (OCP/Gel) by partially hydrolysis reaction. The results showed that hydrolysis of OCP in OCP/Gel tended to advance more than the absence of Gel molecules in the hydrolysis reaction and the hydrolyzed OCP/Gel showed similar biocompatibility as the Gel alone.
