抄録

A Forest Owners' Co-operative extracts smaller diameter logs for energy woods in addition to larger diameter logs for saw timber or laminated lumber. Extraction of smaller diameter logs would increase revenue, but also increase costs, and subsequently, decrease profitability with a DBH less than 20 cm. Another Forest Owners' Co-operative investigated and compared commercial thinning operations between normal and 3-m bucking. As a result, 3-m bucking led to higher extracted volumes, because the total log volume included curved and rotten wood that had normally been left in the forest following normal bucking; through the use of 3-m bucking, this wood was successfully extracted.
