抄録

Acoustic emission (AE) is the emission of elastic stress waves resulting from deformation and fractureof materials. The AE signals depend on the intensity of deformation and fracture of materials. Tribological phenomenon is a kind of deformation and fracture occurred at material surfaces. Therefore, it could be possible to observe tribological phenomena by measuring AE signals. In this study, the transition of wear mode was measured using the frequency analysis of AE signals and the maximum AE amplitude value to examine the relationship between AE signals and tribological phenomena. In the experiment, abrasive wear occurred in the beginning, and abrasive wear debris was produced. Adhesive wear was caused by the transition of contact state which results from loading of emery paper by the wear debris. The relation between the measured AE signals and wear phenomena was considered from surface observation with a microscope before and after sliding. As a result of this experiment, it found that a high frequency peak in AE frequency spectrum and a maximum AE amplitude value indicated the point which adhesive wear occurred. Furthermore, we can detect and identify the transition of wear mode by AE signals.
