Abstract

This paper discusses the influence of the mesh number of the finite difference wave control of cantilevered beam by both distributed force control and bending moment control methods by numerical simulation. The authors have presented the finite difference boundary control methods, however, the control performance, especially at low frequency range, has not been clarified. In this paper the control performance of the 50 and 10 finite difference approximations for distributed force control and 50 and 25 finite difference approximations for bending moment control at frequency range from first to ninth natural frequencies are discussed. At low frequency range 25 finite difference approximation of moment control has better control performance than 50 finite-difference approximation. The distributed control method has no such characteristics but both 50 and 10 approximation control have similar properties, and agrees with the theoretical control response which is derived without considering the causality. Controlled displacements have been found to be dependent on the sampling time regardless of the control stability.
