This study proposes an eyeball vibration-type non-contact tonometer using a parametric speaker. High intraocular pressure increases an individual's risk of developing glaucoma; thus, regular intraocular pressure measurements are recommended. For the measurement of intraocular pressure, the patient's cornea is subjected to a high force by a probe or puff of air, which may stress the patients. A new intraocular pressure measurement method using corneal vibration induced by a change in intraocular pressure is proposed in this paper. In this method, the cornea is vibrated by a parametric speaker using an ultrasonic carrier wave that can cause an audible sound in a small space. Further, by vibrating the cornea using signals below the audible range, the proposed device does not emit any sound to the surroundings. For this reason, the doctor and patient do not hear an unpleasant sound. In this paper, first the configuration of the measuring system is shown. Second, a curved parametric speaker used to enhance the power that vibrates the cornea is proposed and its ability is evaluated experimentally. Finally, experimental results using a pig eye are shown. Cornea vibration is influenced by the change in intraocular pressure, and a major change appears in a low frequency range in particular.
