Experimental studies were conducted on the liquid sloshing characteristics in a rigid spherical tank with a flexible hemispherical diaphragm. A spherical acrylic tank with 285 mm in diameter was used as a test tank, and test diaphragms made of silicon with 0.2 mm thickness in plane or hemispherical shapes were used. In the case with a hemispherical diagram, the filling ratio of liquid η (=(liquid volume Vl/tank volume Vt)×100) was changed. The test tank was harmonically excited in the vertical direction by an electro-dynamic exciter. In this case, as a parametric unstable vibration comes up when the excitation frequency is twice the natural frequency, parametric instability regions of natural mode were measured for three cases, i.e. free liquid surface, covered with plane diagram and hemispherical diagram.
