This paper reports on an attempt to improve Learning Through Discussion (LTD). In Step Five of LTD, learners connect previously learnt knowledge and concepts to the content of new learning materials. In Step Six, learners connect previous experiences to new learning materials. However, the difference between the two steps becomes less clear when learners are studying new materials that are unrelated to their major or when learners lack knowledge related to new subject matter. 24 female college students participated in the study, which used modified versions of Step Five and Step Six. Modified Step Five connects learning materials to what the learners have learned in the past. Modified Step Six helps learners to connect new materials with a future vision of themselves. Positive results in belief in cooperation were noted in class using the modified versions of Steps Five and Six.
