The purpose of this paper is to propose the model for a free standing rack behavior under earthquake excitation, and to find a way to design an earthquake-resistant rack by using this model. In this paper, we established the model a rocking behavior of a rack, and we validated the proposed model comparing with an experiment. Succeedingly, we conducted parameter study with the model by changing the coefficient of statistic friction, the coefficient of dynamic friction, and the coefficient of restitution. Finally, we found that the coefficient of statistic friction had a limit to make an effect to the maximum angle of the rack, and that the coefficient of restitution might have a possibility to reduce the maximum displacement of the rack.
