モロッコの旧都フェスの旧市街は、1000年以上にわたって持続し成熟してきた歴史的都市である。旧市街は認知された遺産であるだけでなく、住民が実際に生活する都市であり、保全と同時にその住環境整備をも並行して行っていくことが不可欠である。本稿では旧市街の歴史的環境本来のあり方を参照しながら、フランス保護領時代以来の保全再生政策の展開を考察する。今日用いられる主要な手法は用途転換、街路形成、および住宅の再編成である。 The old city of Fez is a historic city that has been sustained and matured over a thousand years. Because the old city is not only a famous heritage site but also a city where people still live, preserving action should be combined with residential environment improvement. Referring to the original scene of historic environment of the old city, I consider the evolution of the rehabilitation policies since French protectorate. The principal actions today are conversion of historic monuments, making of street spaces and reorganization of housing.
