We have studied on children's development and have pointed out that the present-day children have developmental "delay and unbalance" recently. The delay is prominent in "Drawing". So we investigated into "Drawing" precisely on this study. We collected materials using the Kyoto Scale of Psychological Development, an instrument for developmental assessment based on Binet A, Gesell A, and others. The data were individual assessments of 1209 children in 1983 and 1789 children in 2001. We compared the data of "passing rates" and "50%- and 75%- passing age" for eleven items of "Drawing" for 1983 and 2001. "Passing rates" are percentages which children in each age have passed the item. "50% (75%) passing ages" are calculated ages at which 50% (75%) of children would succeed in the task of items. As for "passing rates" there are differences between 1983 and 2001 and between male and female. As for 50%- and 75%- passing age, some items in "Drawing" showed delayed development, "Copying square" delayed about 6 months, "Copying triangle" delayed about 8 months and "Copying diamond" delayed about 12 months, "Drawing" development such as "Copying figure" delayed in latter half of infancy. These results indicate that the developmental milestone of "Drawing" ability in infancy has been receding recently in Japan. These features are commonly seen in children with behavioral problems or disabilities. Further investigation is needed from now on.
