Abstract
Since the stiffeners for reinforcement of curved shell structure like ship hull are fitted along the complex surface, they are often deformed as twisted figure, and the three-dimensional bending process in the manufacturing is required. The process has been done by the line heating method using gas heating and water cooling, which is also applied for the steel plate bending of ship hull. It is desired to achieve the mechanization and automation by the operation of non-skilled workers, because this operation needs a lot of experience of 10〜20 years. Hence, it is necessary to generalize and digitize these heating and cooling phenomena. For the preliminary study, measurements of temperature distribution and deformation of the stiffener are carried out during the line heating process. Furthermore, thermal elastic-plastic FEM analysis using general-purpose FEM software "Quick Welder" to simulate the phenomenon. The result showed that the FEM analysis was well coincided with the experimental results.
