抄録

In the first section, this paper considers about the characteristics of the Japanese traditional culture. And it refers the Japanese Arts and Crafts Movement (MINGEI) as one of the best examples; which tried for the human beings to co-exist with nature and to introduce the art into the human daily life. The Movement, originated by Mr. YANAGI Muneyoshi, also tried to unify the art with the human daily life. It was just the criticism to the art supremacy principle. In the second section, this paper examines the characteristics and problems of the design curriculum carried out in the special school, being compared with those in the university education. In the third section, this paper introduces the experimental curriculum structures of the University Extension Courses, which YOSHIOKA has developed so far. One is The Textile Design Course, which YOSHIOKA instructed at the Center for University Extension several years ago. Those features were extracted from the experiences of engaging in the dye making process actually. The other is the original Course of the graphic design, which YOSHIOKA has developed for this paper. It tries to combine the contents of the Japanese traditional culture with the ICT skills and applications. The introduction of the design education into the university life-long learning courses will give the citizens a lot of possibilities; for example, not only brushing up artistic techniques, but also widening their own insights into our modern society.
