Abstract
The ytterbium in the natural apatite minerals were determined by graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. The absorbance of ytterbium were very highly suppressed by large amounts of calcium phosphate(synthetic apatite) ions. Therefore, ytterbium tried on the method for separating from the solution including the macro-component apatite ions by the solvent extraction method. 1-Phenyl-3-methyl-4-trifluoroacetyl-5-pyrazolone (HPMTFP), in which the pKa value was 2.56, was chosen as the extraction reagent, and buty1 ether was selected as an organic solvent. Ytterbium was quantitatively extracted at pH=3, and could be separated from macro-component apatite. 10μl of the organic phase was injected directly in the graphite furnace atomizer of atomic absorption spectrometry. The Yb content in the natural apatite minerals was found to be 0.99~12.0μg/g.
