Conducting the observant participation and semi-structured interviews with youth workers at the Pachinko Parlor, this paper will focus on not only the historical and institutional trends of the Pachinko industry, but also the physical and emotional labor experiences of youth workers. Pachinko is a legitimate form of gambling that plays a huge part in the Japanese economy. Confronting with the situations, angry customers swear, or sometimes even punch the machines, being officially considered a type of leisure or entertainment, though. By analyzing the physical and emotional labor of youth workers at the Pachinko parlor, this paper will show us the reason why is to be an addiction of the pachinko as a similar form of the gambling by immersing the boundary between work and life.
