In recent years, with the development of three-dimensional imaging technique, as seen in movies and games such as 3D, stereoscopic video content is becoming more familiar. Among them, the auto-stereoscopic technology can enjoy stereoscopic images without the use of special equipment, e.g., the 3D glasses. Auto-stereoscopic multi-view techniques have been studied by combining images which have the minute plurality of viewpoints into one image in focus. However, conventional techniques for generating multi-view naked-eye 3D vision suffer from image degradation due to loss of pixel values through tiling multi-view images into an intermediate image. This is because there is a strict limitation on image resolution in MPEG format, which forces multi-view images in tiling to be reduced in size and lose parts of the original image data. The proposed method generates multi-view 3D vision by taking each view composed of original image pixel data directly in real-time without generating any intermediate tiling image and improves the image quality of naked-eye 3D vision substantially. Comparative experiments regarding image quality and computational time required to load multi-view images and sort pixel data in each process demonstrate the validity of the proposed method over the conventional technique.
