Pachtaxel is one of the most extensively used anticancer agents, however, its use is often limited by severe hypersensitivity reactions, including respiratory distress, bronchospasm, and hypotension, which can occur despite premedication with dexamethasone and histamine H_1 and H_2 antagonists We demonstrated for the first time that sensory nerve peptides but not mast cell histamme are involved in paclitaxel hypersensitivity and that an anti-allergic agent pemirolast attenuates the pachtaxel response by inhibiting the release of sensory nerve peptides.
