Latin is now said to be a dead language. However, it has still survived in English, especially in books and papers of natural science. Many English words are derived from classical languages, ancient Greek and Latin. In this paper, I outlined the history of Latin and the structure of academic terms. Then, I listed English irregular plurals derived from Latin, which are often used in natural science, and examined the time they were introduced into English. As a result, I found out that most of the English irregular plurals originated from the plural forms of subjective nouns in Latin, and were introduced into English between the 16th and 17th centuries. In the 18th century, English was grammatically established as language. At the same time, the influence of Latin on English waned, while English increased its popularity as an international language.
