抄録

The interrelationships between oneself and significant others are crucial for human beings. In modern society, however, knowledge of the importance of interrelationships has been diminished. As a result, increasing numbers of people have hardships and difficulties in daily life. This paper discusses the essential function of psychoanalytic psychotherapy in helping patients to regain the capacity for close interrelationships with the help of the therapist. The patient's inner world and object relations are projected onto the therapist and the psychotherapeutic setting. The transference/countertransference forms an essential part the therapeutic relationship, and is an unconscious communication from the patient. The therapist should recognize what is happening in this setting and deliver understanding to the patient through interpretation. In addition, a review of research on interrelationships in different disciplines is presented. By comparing the approach to such interrelationships, taking insight from these disciplines, the transference/countertransference was examined from a personal viewpoint.
