In this paper, I tried to make several considerations on the studentsʼ future pathways after leaving high schools. Research questions were as follows; 1） How was the studentsʼ choice of career courses decided after graduating high schools in area K of Iwate Prefecture? 2） Was such structure of studentsʼ choice changed after the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011? As a result of analysing statistical data andinterview investigation, the structure has not transformed. 3） Why has not such structure changed after 3.11, in 2011? How do I think about this structureʼs immobility? It may suggest that such aimmovable structure reflects the hopeless ʻrealityʼ of local areas in contemporary Japan and high schools situated in such regions.
