Previous research has suggested that individuals exhibit explicit ageism under pathogen threat. The present study investigated whether Japanese assistant nursing students exhibited implicit ageism when pathogen threat was salient. Additionally, the study determined whether pathogen threat would have less of an impact on ageism among high nursing identifier. Study showed that when pathogen threat was contextually salient, participants with lower nursing self identifications exhibited implicit ageism, while those with higher self identifications did not. We argue that self identifications and motivations are essential for diminishing ageism.
