An Analysis of International Competitiveness in Dies and Molds

This paper aims to conduct a comparative study of international competitiveness in dies and molds among major countries by using GCI. The trade data are extracted from the data base of UN Comtrade. The countries that are the primary focus of this paper are India, Brazil, Thailand, China and South Korea. The author conducted a detailed analysis of supply and demand in dies and molds, trends in international competitiveness, and the and characteristics of these countries’ dies and molds trades from around 1990 to 2014. The paper then provides a comparative study of many countries all over the world where users or suppliers of dies and molds were active in 1994 and in 2014. The following countries were selected: among developed countries, Japan, Germany, Switzerland, the USA, the UK, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Finland and Russia; among Asian NIEs, Korea and Singapore; for ASEAN, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam, and from other countries, China, India, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Turkey and South Africa.
