抄録

本稿は，ラインホールド・ニーバー（1892～1971）の「力」の理解の正確な把握を目的とした。ニーバーの提唱した「クリスチャン・リアリズム」は，特に20世紀後期からその立場が二分されることとなったが，この二極化の状況は，結局のところ，ニーバーの「力」の理解の解釈の相違によって引き起こされたといえよう。ニーバーは力の概念をパワーとフォースに区別し，特にフォースの考察に，暴力面のみならず非暴力的側面を加えた。また，力のアイロニー性に着目しつつ，力を行使原理的にではなく制限原理的として解釈し，預言者的視点を鮮明にした。

This essay is aimed at reaching a precise understanding of Reinhold Niebuhr’s concept of power. Niebuhr classified power as power and force. The former is a very inclusive concept, but the latter premises something compelling. The most interesting fact is that Niebuhr included not only violent but also non-violent force. This insight is often easily missed by most Christian realists. Moreover, Niebuhr focused on power as an extremely ironic concept. With his interpretations, Niebuhr still remains prophetic voices on power.
