Though nursing has traditionally been regarded as a female profession, this image has changed with the times. In this study, we examined whether Japanese university students hold stereotypical beliefs of "nurses are competent and warm" from the perspective of the stereotype content model. In addition, since the style of nurse coats has also changed, we examined how different colors of nurse coats can affect the impression of female nurses. In the experiment, participants watched one of the illustration of nurse in a white coat, a pink coat, or a blue coat. Then participants completed gender related trait scales. As a result, participants rated female nurses as highly agentic (competent) and communal (warm). These impressions were stronger in white coat conditions than in pink and blue coat conditions.
