Rubber band ligation treatment of the internal hemorrhoids as discribed by Blaisdell and modified by Barron and McGivney is introduced to Japan. A series of 2098 patients with internal hemorrhoids which are accompanied with or without external hemorrhoids is presented, in whom the chief treatment has been by the Barron ligating technic under spinal anesthesia. After the ligation of internal hemorrhoids, skin tags or/and thrombosed external hemorrhoids are treated surgically if neccesary.<BR>Secondary bleeding after the ligation occured in 0.5% (11 cases) between 6th and 15th day. No case of anal stricture due to the ligation is observed.<BR>In those cases which have fistula-in-ano or anal fissure besides the hemorrhoids, ligation of the hemorrhoids is done after surgical treatment of these anal pathological conditions.<BR>Sufficient time has not elapsed for an adequate follow up, but experience thus far appears to indicate that results are satisfactory as same as those of hemorrhoidectomy and injection treatment for hemorrhoid without an increase in the incidence of complications.
