抄録

The factors causing pruritus ani have been frequently discussed up to now without leading to any acceptable opinion, while certain presentations denying one another about this disease were made in the meantime.<BR>Patients who visited our clinic with the chief complaint of pruritus ani during the past three years numbered 478. Out of this number, the author selected 359 cases excluding 119 incidental to other anal diseases (except for cryptitis and papillitis), and classified them by cause. The classification results revealed : 57 cases (15.87%) resulting from allergy due to food and external remedies, 33 cases (9.19%) having true fungi detected, 160 cases (44.56%) considered cryptogenic, and 109 cases (30.36%) with causes unknown.<BR>The author found some cases considered plainly cryptogenic prurintus although this disease was denied in some presentations, and further he observed many cases of pruritus ani given rise to by taking raw garlic among those caused by food allergy.
